Camera Validation Engineer

Job Summary:

Tesla is seeking a Camera Validation Engineer to join its Camera Hardware Engineering team. This role involves validating image sensors, developing camera modules, and supporting mass production for advanced camera systems across Tesla’s vehicle and robotics platforms. The engineer will play a critical role in image quality evaluations, vendor interactions, system characterization, and driving innovation in next-gen camera technology.

Responsibilities:

• Perform camera system-level characterization and calibration.
• Support manufacturing tests and debug complex vision hardware/software systems.
• Validate and benchmark image sensors, including LWIR and SWIR technologies.
• Create metrics and methodologies for validating camera and vision systems.
• Conduct lab-based image quality evaluations and iterative algorithm testing.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams on future camera features and requirements.
• Drive and manage vendors for requirement verification and implementation validation.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of CMOS image sensors, camera systems, and ISP tuning.
• Hands-on experience with camera module hardware/software bring-up and SerDes interfaces.
• Understanding of electro-optical and mechanical components in camera modules.
• Experience with Python, MATLAB, C/C++, and Linux command line environment.
• Familiarity with standard image quality tools and software.
• Ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and escalate issues clearly.

Expected Compensation:

$118,320 - $273,480 per year (salary) + cash and stock awards + full benefits package.
